THE HILL INN
Last week Carrolls of The Hill Inn held a Karaoke Fancy Dress Party with prizes for the best costumes. I had mentioned that it sounded like like fun to me and after attending the Party myself , I can assure you it was. Pablo provided the karaoke and as usual there was no shortage of singers. Everybody that went along to the party made a huge effort with their costumes , some were absolutely hilarious and some were a bit rude, but equally hilarious.Well done to all the people that made the effort. But in the end there has to be a best dressed and that title went to Brian Hickey who dressed up as B.A.Baracas or Mr.T. from the Snickers ad., he even brought along a snickers bar. Hopefully I can include a photo as I took many on the night.
The Hill Inn are starting the very popular Eurostar Competition 2008. The first heat is this Saturday 15th November @10pm, 2nd heat will be on the following Saturday 22nd November @10pm and the Grand Final will be held on Friday 28th November @ 10pm. Pablo is providing the Karaoke and all proceeds are in aid of Cahir Scouts. So come along and enjoy a Karaoke Night, sing a song or vote for your favourite act/singer. Contact Marie on 087 2026363 or Kevin on 087 2826600 for any further information. Im definately going.

COTTAGE ANIMAL RESCUE
Pat Crotty and friends would like to thank most sincerely the following people: John and Carmel Dolan and the Staff of SuperValu, for allowing them to sell tickets on their premises and for providing teas and coffees to the ticket sellers; Pat’s great friends who stood in the cold for hours selling tickets; everyone who bought tickets and also the people who gave individual donations.
The total amount raised was €1,665 and this amount has been forwarded to Hannah Fitzgerald, who runs the Rescue, and she is most grateful to everyone. The winner of the Hamper was Helen O’Gorman of Lissava.
Pat sent me some ‘before and after’ pictures of a few of the animals taken in by Cottage Animal Rescue, and they really are horrendous. It is very distressing and there is no end to it. If Hannah can re-home one dog, three more come in and every animal that comes through the door is a vet’s bill. She has seven vets on the go.
The work done at this Rescue is all voluntary and totally dependant on the generosity of the public. I join with Pat in urging people to treat animals with kindness and respect. Do people think they don’t feel pain? You need only look into the eyes of an abused animal and you get the answer. And however happy they may be in their rescue home, they still flinch when you put out a hand, or wait until you are well away from the door before they will go through it.
CAHIR CAMOGIE NEWS
The AGM of Cahir Camogie Club took place on Wednesday night 5th November. Vice Chairperson Maire Casey opened the meeting and welcomed all present. Club secretary Mary Howard read the Minutes of last year's AGM and this was followed by her own Report for the last year.
Mary outlined all the club's activities during the last twelve months and in conclusion thanked the GAA Club for the use of their facilities and for their on-going support, Colaiste Dun Iascaigh for the use of their hall for indoor training, her fellow committee members and in particular the parents of the girls for their support.
Treasurer Jo Burke gave a comprehensive and detailed account of the clubs finances and again thanked all who helped her during the year and said that while the club is not in a bad financial state at all, on-going fundraising is vital and with that in mind a Bag Pack has been organised for the 21st and 22nd November at Dolan's SuperValu Cahir, with the kind permission of John and Carmel Dolan.
All the various Managers of the different teams then gave their accounts of the year's happenings and while we have great commitment from the membership at our younger age levels, the managers of the U14,16 and 18 teams are finding it hard to field teams, which is such a pity as these girls have got fantastic talent. There is no reason why these older girls cannot bring off the same amount of success as our present U12 team.
With no further business to discuss Marie opened the election of the officers for the coming year:
Chairperson: Martin Halpin.
Vice Chairperson: Marie Casey
Secretary: Mary Howard
Assistant Secretary: Mary O' Donnell.
Treasurer: Margaret O' Donnell
P.R.O. : Pattie Costigan.
The club wishes to acknowledge the wonderful work and commitment to the club of the two out going officers - former Chairperson Billy Coffey and Treasurer Jo Burke.
The Chairman of Cahir GAA Club Larry Molan who was present at the meeting, congratulated the club on another successful year and wished the incoming Officers and the club all the best for the next twelve months.
Indoor Training: It has been decided to postpone indoor training until after Christmas as the Colaiste would only be available to us for two nights before Christmas

DEPUTY DESCRIBES ATTITUDE AS “DESPICABLE”
Deputy Mattie McGrath in a statement made on the day of Moy Isover’s closure, expressed his utter disgust at the Moy Isover Senior Management and their parent company for their outrageous treatment of their staff, the people of Ardfinnan ind indeed the communities of South Tipperary.
“I am utterly appalled with the closure of this factory … which in my opinion was totally viable and with proper forward vision and half-decent management could have continued production for decades into the futures, especially with the awareness of energy-efficient products that is out there” said Deputy McGrath.
“Moving forward, I think it would be more beneficial for the company to remove themselves fully from Ardfinnan, so that we can work to secure a viable industry at their current location. I will be working closely with the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Ms Mary Coughlan TD; the County Manager Mr Ned O’Connor and all other relevant bodies to this end”.
Continuing, Deputy McGrath said “I am appalled by the treatment the company and management afforded to their employees and Public Representatives in the months prior to the closure and also during our meeting in Dublin, and indeed after. I would like to thank especially the employees and Union officials who travelled to our meeting, for their commitment and efforts.
“It is, of course, a pity that, despite the efforts made on everybody’s behalf, the greed and mismanagement of this mu.ti-national company won over in the end. It’s a sad day for Ardfinnan, which accommodated the company over the decades in every possible way. In times, the community donated land out of their own resources to extend the company, showing the locality’s true community spirit and support“.
Concluding, Deputy McGrath said “I would like to pay tribute to Mr Ned O’Connor, County Manager; Ms Sinead Carr, Director of Services, South Tipperary County Council, Department of Enterprise officials, the IDA, the County Enterprise Board and all other related bodies who were willing to put their shoulders to the wheel in trying to facilitate this company. I look forward to working with them going forward to find a sustainable, viable replacement industry”.

FIS Film Festival
Congratulations to Third and Sixth Classes in Our Lady of Mercy Primary School and to Darina Slattery and Sylvia Sheehan their class teachers. Both classes and Teachers were invited to the Helix Theatre in DCU, Dublin last week for the Fis Film Festival. They won the award for ' Outstanding Achievement in Film Making, for editing'.
They had a wonderful day and were treated to dinner on the way home (due to some very successful fundraising)
The Award was for a film that the classes made called 'Cristina's Diary'. The film was based on a Russian child coming to an Irish School and all the difficulties she has had to overcome, so alot of editing had to be done, involving, dubbing and subtitles. The children also had the chance to see films that other Schools around the country had made. The Festival was broadcast on RTE 2 last week.
Well Done to all involved. What a Fantastic opportunity for those classes, where would we be without such dedicated Teachers.?( Hopefully we will get some photos)
WHATS ON AT DUNESKE
The news that Duneske now has 2 new Vibrostations, came as a welcome surprise as these are much talked about equipment in the Gym Scene.
Vibrostations use a Whole Body Vibration (WBV) technique which used as a training method has been shown to increase bone density, muscle strength and flexibility in a remarkably short amount of time. 10 minutes with this system is the equivalent of 60 minutes of weight lifting. Standing on a vibrating plate, every cell in your body vibrates at the same speed as the plate is vibrating( 30 -50 times /second).
The Vibrostations benefits include Rapid muscle increase, increased fat burning, increased flexibility, activation of the circulation( Which helps with the removal of cellulite), improvement of the co-ordination and also has been shown to benefit older people.
There are fully trained staff available to work out a personal training session for you exclusively. The rates for members are 10 minutes - E5 , non members -E7, But there is a promotional offer of 60 minutes for E20 for members (saving E10) and 60 minutes for E30 for non members ( saving E12).
