CAHIR BINGO
This goes on every Tuesday in the Community Hall, starting at 8:30pm. They ran Bingo all over the holidays, which helped greatly to contribute to the Christmas Lights and also St Paul’s.
The Lucky Number last night was €250. This is in addition to the €70 prize for the panel. This would be nice after the Christmas excesses. This game is in the book every week, so you don’t even need to buy extra, just check on the Lucky Number!
CAHIR FARMERS’ MARKET
This Market is back in business this Saturday, 17th January. The producers are looking forward to offering their customers a full supply of fresh produce and plenty of chat!
MARIA TAYLOR SENDS IN THE FOLLOWING:
CAHIR COUNTRY MARKET
It is always good to see all the folks at the Country Market, especially after the Christmas break, as they were all in great form and full of New Year cheer. As usual, I shopped local and managed to get all my fresh vegetables and some cakes. There is always plenty of choice and they offer everything from landmade cards, jewellery, knitted goods, gifts, honey, organic eggs, homemade pies, cakes and breads to fresh and dried flowers, not forgetting fresh vegetables. So shop local and visit Cahir Country Markets every Friday from 9 to 11am.
THE LATE PAUL KIRWAN
The death of Paul Kirwan took place in America on 30th December. Paul was the 42-year-old son of Johnny Kirwan of 10 Bengurragh, Cahir. Tragedy struck while Paul was on holiday in the States with his wife Julie and children Angus and Olive. Paul’s father Johnny now lives in Billericay with his wife May, and his aunts Maureen and Josephine live in Cahir. Sincerest sympathy is extended to all the family and relations.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
As readers can see, the Christmas Lights have been put to bed for another year and I must say that if they had not been there, Cahir would have looked very sad over the Christmas.
Thank you to all who gave donations - which are still coming in - towards the Lights. The Draw for the Hampers etc that are displayed in The Square will take place on 23rd January, so there is still time to get your name down - lines cost just €2 each and are now available in many shops and pubs throughout the town. If you wish to make a donation, you can send it to the Business & Training Centre, Market Yard, Cahir. A fulllist of Sponsors will be published when they are all in, and businesses will be sent stickers for their windows saying that they supported the Lights.

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR ‘FLU’ JAB?
When I went in to the doctor for my MOT recently, I was surprised to hear that I could still have a ‘flu’ jab (having forgotten all about it in the Autumn). Of course, this is important for all those at risk so if, like me, you haven’t had it done already, here’s your chance.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Stephen and Sarah Brunnick’s baby girl was born on Christmas Day. They live in Clonmore, and this is their first child. Best wishes to you all.
RUBBISH IN OUR LOVELY WOODS
This is the heading on an e-mail that came in to me on 11th. “Would the stupid person who dumped 11 (yes, ELEVEN) black plastic bags full of leaves at the SAP gates, just past the Swiss Cottage Car Park on the Ardfinnan Road, please remove them, or at the very least they could have emptied them and taken the plastic home with them. Better still, they could have put them in their own garden - what wonderful compost they make“.
LAPTOP LEFT AT BUS SHELTER
A student left her Toshiba Laptop at the Bus Shelter in Castle Street between 11 and 11:15am on Monday morning. The Laptop has information that is vital to her studies on it, and its return would be very much appreciated. Please telephone Angela Kennedy on 087 97 22 850 if you have any information about this.
AFTER-SCHOOL SOCCER
An After-School Soccer Club for Primary School children is starting on Friday 29th January at the Duneske Leisure Centre between 3:30 and 5:30pm. Every child will be welcome, even if they have never played before.

Duneske is a safe environment in which your children can get fit and have some fun at the same time. To register your child, or if you have any questions, you can call Chris Richards on 085 703 3509.
TIDY TOWNS
Cllr Andy Moloney has hailed 2008 as a tremendous success for the Cahir Tidy Towns Group. He says that 21st January is the date for the first meeting of 2009. The group willmeet at 7:30 in the Meeting Room of the Shamrock Lounge. Following the achievements of last year, which were co-ordinated by Area Engineer Mr Paul Mulcahy along with huge involvement from Council Staff and a dedicated group of volunteers from around the town, there should be added interest this year.
We need to sit down and discuss what areas need to be targeted and the filling up of the application form is going to be vital in achieving maximum points in all sections. Cllr Moloney is asking those who received prizes last year in the local competition to get involved and share their thought wish the group. There is no Chairman, Secretary or Committee, but just interested people who meet and talk with the Council officials and discuss the problems of litter and tidiness in the town, among other things, and what action needs to be taken.
The Councillor hopes that there will be a good turnout on 21st.

Members returned to the Centre all in good health and with great enthusiasm for the variety of activities provided by Lil Davis and her excellent staff.
