EXHIBITION OF LOCAL ELECTION MEMORABILIA

Cllr Andy Moloney recently visited with the Curator of the County Museum in Clonmel, to promote the current exhibition of Local Election Memorabilia that will run until May. The collection of articles includes a selection of Posters, Canvass Cards and newspaper cuttings along with many related items.
Some of the artifact’s include many of the current candidates who have stood for election before and some who have been elevated to the Dail.
Minister John Gormley has reduced spending on elections and there is no doubt that it is only a matter of time before posters are banned. Various Tidy Town Committees are now placing a poster ban in their areas. Many Candidates have compensated by putting Vans and decorated Cars around the Towns and villages, but this is sure to cause upset to Traders, who need parking spaces for their customers.
Cllr Moloney says that in the run up to the local elections there will be a certain amount of talk of yesteryear and that a visit to the South Tipperary County Museum in Clonmel, to see the exhibition, would be very worthwhile.

Pictured during his recent visit to Cahir in March is MEP Brian Crowley, with South Tipperary TD, Mattie McGrath, Cllr Michael Anglim,

Cllr Andy Moloney and Local Election Candidate, Tom Meehan, also included is Director of Elections for the Cahir Area, Gerry Bell.

DOUBLING UP OF ON-FARM INSPECTORATE - WASTES TAXPAYERS’ MONEY AND WOULD BE UNACCEPTABLE TO FARMERS - MCGRATH

South Tipperary/West Waterford TD, Mattie McGrath, has in a statement today said that the proposed doubling up of on-farm inspectorate would be a waste of tax payers money and is unacceptable to farmers.

“Farmers have spent over €1.5 billion of their own money, in addition to €1 billion of grant aid, upgrading farmyards and farm buildings to comply with the highest of environmental standards and to meet onerous requirements of nitrates regulations.”

“I am calling on the Minister and his Department to reconsider plans to direct County Councils to recruit a second army of inspectors to check compliance with nitrates regulations. This compliance and on-farm inspections are already being carried out competently by a qualified Department of Agriculture Inspectorate,” said Deputy McGrath.

“This proposed new layer of bureaucracy puts a totally unnecessary burden on farmers and would be a major waste of tax-payers money.”

Deputy McGrath concluded by saying that rural water quality is of a high standard and continue to improve. The EPA report, WATER QUALITY IN IRELAND, published in 2007 shows that farmers are contributing to significant improvements in water quality, with almost 92% of lakes classified as unpolluted and 85% of fish kill coming from non-agricultural sources.
