PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION
A Photographic Exhibition will take place in Cahir House Hotel on Sunday 15th November, 2009, from 1pm-5.30pm. Our holiday to the Galway Bay Hotel on Sunday 27th September, for 3 Nights, turned out to be an outstanding success. Many thanks to Bob Condon our Secretary, Chairperson Sadie Caplice and all involved in the arranging of this excellent holiday. We had an exquisite time and beautiful weather and we all enjoyed ourselves in a top Class hotel. We went to Aran Island and also to Kylemore in Connemara. Aran Island was a very interesting trip, where we were given lots of history about the Island and its heritage. We had grand entertainment in the Hotel each evening. There was dancing to suit all moods and ages, music, singing, storytelling, and also traditional music. We were late to bed every night and then had an early start the day after (this is what Active Retirement really means). Exceptional thanks to Tony O' Dwyer and Billy Stokes for making the Holiday such a success, which all and sundry enjoyed. Their music and singing were stupendous and we look forward to them travelling with us on future trips.
The next monthly Meeting will be held at the Catherine McAuley Room at 2 30pm on Wednesday 7th October. Arrangements for the trip to Punchestown Racecourse on Wednesday 28th October will be finalised.
Information regarding Cahir Active Retirement Association may be obtained by contacting The Secretary on cahiractiveretirement@gmail.com or by phone on 052 74 441892.

CAHIR YOUTH CLUB.
The youth club will be re-opening on next Friday 9th October in the new Cahir Youth Resource Centre (behind the VEC building) Registration will take place from 7-8.30pm for 12-17+ year olds. Parents/guardians must accompany them for registration night. To ensure the youth club is available to all the young people in the town and surrounding areas, the leaders have set aside funds to cover the cost of insurance for the first year. Therefore it will only cost €2 per member on each club night. Also anyone aged over 18 years, who is interested in becoming involved with the club or indeed anyone who would like to see this impressive new building is most welcome to come along.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
This year the Cahir Craft Fair will take place on the 6th December in Cahir House Hotel. It is being organised by Mary Jenkins. If you would like to participate, you can contact Mary on (052)7442236, mobile 0868298224 or email on madjenkins@yahoo.com. Mary would like to say thank you to Ned Longeran for all the hard work he put in to the Craft Fair down through the years.

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
On 22nd September, Maureen Ahern hosted a very pleasant and interesting evening at her home, where her daughter Carita O'Leary gave a talk on Interior Architecture. Carita has recently completed a 4-year course on the subject and plans to give talks and consultations in the area of her home, in Kildare.

The subjects covered included the use of colour; how it makes you feel and how it works in a room. Caritas presentation was great fun and full of fascinating tips. The colour questionnaire was particularly enjoyable. The ladies of Kildare are lucky!

“Kiss Me Kate” Write it in your diaries now – the Colaiste musical, Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me Kate”, will be take place in the Colaiste from Thursday December 3rd to Sunday December 6th. This is one of the highlights of the year, an event not to be missed. Rehearsals are now in full swing. ROSEMOUNT NOTES
Thank you to all who came out and supported the Clean Up last Wednesday 30th September. The evenings are getting darker, but we will try to keep the Clean Up going for another while as the weather is still mild.

We are having our AGM on Wednesday 14th October in the Shamrock Lounge at 8pm. It would be great to have new people at the meetings. Why not come along and get involved. All very welcome.

BEECH PARK RESIDENTS
We will be doing a cleanup of overgrowth and weeds at the back of the small houses. As there is a bit of work to be done we will need some extra help (maybe a few more males). We will meet at the car park at 2 o clock on Saturday 10th October.

Once again a reminder that it is the time of year to be vigilant of anyone attempting to light bonfires in the football pitch, as this will not be tolerated.
Previous 4 weeks draw winners were; Ita Peters, John Donoghue, Bridget Saunders and Annette Prendergast.

COTTAGE RESCUE ANIMAL SHELTER
Pat Crotty and friends would sincerely like to thank all the people who supported the recent Bric a Brac sale in aid of the Cottage Rescue, the people who donated items, those who bought items on the day and those who gave donations to Pat. The total amount raised was €1,454.50 and a bank draft for this amount has been sent to them.
There were pictures of the abused animals on display and people were horrified at the appalling cruelty inflicted on poor defenceless animals. You do not have to own an animal, so why get one unless you are prepared to look after them. For more information on the Rescue Centre why not look it up on the website cottagerescue.ie Thanks again for all your support.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Mary Donovan, Jonathon McLoughlin and not forgetting big brother Joshua who along with their families celebrated little Travis McLoughlins christening last weekend. Their families would like to send them the very best of wishes. They would also like to thank the Hill Bar who made them welcome and made sure they had a great night and Pablo too, who came at very short notice to provide a wonderful evening of Karaoke entertainment. A great night was had by all.
Congratulations also to Tim and Loretta Shanahan, the proud new owners of The Bell in Cahir. I’m sure you all saw the leaflet that came through your door advertising their new menu. I had the chance to dine there a few weeks ago and was very impressed with the food and the service. Tim tells me that they don’t open for food on Mondays and Tuesdays at the moment, but every other day they do. Well done to you both and good luck.

FAIR WARNING
I have been informed that the new Traffic Warden for Cahir will be in place shortly, illegal parkers beware!!

CAHIR BOYS NATIONAL SCHOOL NEWS
Caper
The junior classes are setting up Children and Parents Enjoy Reading (CAPER) for this coming year. This very successful programme has run through the voluntary efforts of adults, parents and grandparents. If you would like to give of your time, up to an hour a week, please contact the school on 052 7442062, and  give your details and we’ll get back to you.

Appointments with Teachers
Following consultation with the Parents’ Council and the Board of Management, all meetings with teachers will be conducted when an agreed appointment has been arranged. Concerns, grievances and other issues can be dealt with through proper consultation between teachers and parents. Please ring the school office to set up any appointments should you wish to meet your child’s teacher.

Altar Service (from 5th class up)

Altar Boys are required to serve at weekend masses and on occasion serve funerals and weddings during the year. While the school does not send pupils to serve daily masses, serving other events is shared among the pupils so as little time as possible is missed from class. Serving at mass is viewed as a community service and the ethos of the school supports the concept of serving at mass. If you wish your child to be involved in Altar Serving, please ask for and fill out the consent form. 3rd & 4th class have also been invited to learn to become Altar Servers and will be encouraged to serve at weekend masses.

Procedures for Sick Children

In line with custom and practice, when a child complains of being sick and not feeling well we are duty bound, in the interests of the individual child and the welfare of the other pupils in the class, to make contact with parents. The decision to take the child home lies primarily with the parents, but we generally support that decision if the child continues to feel unwell. We do not diagnose the severity of any illness and the only time we do not ring is when the child is being collected anyway, for example, within a few minutes of the end of the day. We encourage those pupils to tell their parents immediately.

DEEPEST SYMPATHIES
Cahir Park F.C. would like to extend their condolences to the family of the late John Butler of Mountain View Drive, Cahir.
John Butler played with St. Michaels A.F.C. in their first match in 1947 against Pike Rovers. John was a frequent visitor to Cahir Park F.C. both as a player and later as a spectator for St. Michaels matches.
In 2007 St. Michaels celebrated their 60th Anniversary and on this occasion John was the recipient of a plaque for his service to the Club. He was also a lifelong supporter of Sunderland F.C. May he rest in peace.

CAHIR COUNTRY MARKET
I paid a visit to the Market last Friday and was delighted to see a new stall selling Bedding plants and other winter plants. It gave me a chance to replace the sorry looking plants in my by now not hanging but drooping baskets.
As usual there was the fantastic display of all things homemade, handmade and home grown and I was able to fill my bags with lots of delicious goodies at very reasonable prices. It really is comforting to know exactly where all your fresh vegetables and flowers, cakes, buns, pies, breads, preserves, eggs, home crafts and lots more come from.
Why don’t you visit Cahir Country Market on Friday mornings in the Community Hall from 9-11am, you won’t be sorry.

“WILD ROSE RALLY”
Last Saturday saw some local bikers head off on the annual “Wild Rose Rally”. It's a well established "Bike only" rally on Valencia island, off the South Kerry coast. Fridge, John, Peter, Brendan, Paul, OJ, Johnny, Sean, Vick, at least 2 Kevin’s and a few others cruised on down with good weather and good times along the way. By all accounts a great time was had by all and all returned safely.
I hear that The V Twins MCC (who recently won 2009 Club of the year) are having their first rally in October, in Conlons Pub, Booleigh near Nurmey, County Kildare, there will be camping, stalls, food, live bands, the dates don’t match on the Irish Bikers Forum though, it’s either on 13th&14th October or 20th, but I’m sure one of you has a bikers bible. Just in case you are looking for a last rally before the frost sets in!!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Youth is like spring, an over- praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes. Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.
Samuel Butler.

READERS NEWS AND VIEWS
You really have to feel sorry for the residents of the Mountain View Drive, but especially the residents of the Mountain Road, for the extra volume of traffic they have had to put up with. Although I believe the bridge repairs are almost finished.
If you have any news, views or notes for the Cahir page, you can contact me on 086 1022014 or email me on caplicetaylor@hotmail.com. By Sunday, because that is when I do the notes. Thank you.
