3 YEAR PLAN ANNOUNCED FOR CAHIR-MOLONEY
There was some very welcome news to coincide with the Cahir Tidy Towns Awards last Tuesday evening when the Chairman Andy Moloney announced a grant for a 3 year Town Plan.
A sub-committee of the Cahir Development Association, the Tidy Towns Enhancement Group had applied to South Tipperary Development Company for a grant to draw up a plan for the town. Many adjudicators and previous winners of the National Tidy Towns Awards had said that such a plan was needed if we were to be serious about winning the coveted prize in the years ahead. There has been great work done in Cahir since the Grangemore Landscaping Plan in association with the Council started working on the approach roads but a plan of this nature will compliment the good work already achieved.
It is hoped that this can be in place before Christmas in order to extend improve our marks next year. Cahir has won Category D in the county this year and there are bigger things ahead.
Chairman, Andy Moloney said that more volunteers are needed on the ground to help in their respective areas. There are litter blitz days where the council collect the litter bags. These are also supplied by the council. There are many benefits of having a tidy and award winning town to businesses and residents and it should be a force of habit to keep our own areas litter free.
At the awards, the Chairman acknowledged the effort made by people in painting their premises and the amount of scaffolding around buildings carrying out work is plain to be seen. A further meeting will be held with a National Judge prior to Christmas and will be advertised in this paper, but it’s not the meetings that matter but the work on the ground in our own areas.

ROCKWELL TO STAGE ‘ALL SHOOK UP’
(by Sean Ryan)
Musical enthusiasts from all over County Tipperary will flock to Rockwell College next week for the staging of the popular musical ‘All Shook Up’. The musical will be staged on Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd of October at the Crosbie Hall in Rockwell College starting at 8pm. The musical is set in the summer of 1955 where a young woman called Natalie living in a small American town in the Midwest has dreams of hitting the road falls in love with a motorcyclist called Chad. However in order to go travelling with him she has to disguise herself as a man which makes for an intriguing plot. The staging of the event which includes students from 2nd, transition and 5th years has been made possible thanks to the huge personal effort made by a number of teachers in Rockwell including Ms Orla O’Dwyer, Ms Gemma Walsh Cummins, Ms Audrey O’Byrne, Ms Lena Hally, Ms Nicola Fahy and members of Thurles Musical society. Tickets for the event cost €10 and can be purchased directly from the College by phoning (062)61444.

EXHIBITION IN THE CRAFT GRANARY
Mary Hayes who is originally from Golden, Co.Tipperary and now living in Cahir, completed B.A. Art ( Paint) 2008 Cluain Mhuire , Galway. Her exhibition in the Craft Granary Cahir ''Open Boundaries'' is a series of paintings which developed from inspirations she has taken from the writings of the late John O' Donohue in'' Divine Beauty''. He talks about "The language of Light and Colour ''

''Colour is not simply a surface pigment or covering. The very heart of an object glows through its colour. Without our eyes there is no colour. The colour of beauty is an intricate play of presence and absence. Colour is never alone for each reflected colour arises through the interplay of other hidden colours." The exhibition will continue until 24th October 09 in the Craft Granary, Church Street, Cahir.

POULMUCKA SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB
The Poulmucka Sports and Social Club would like to thank Keely Tideswell who represented them in the recent Miss Cahir competition. Keely has been a prominent athlete with the Clonmel AC who runs the annual 5 mile road race in Poulmucka each year. Congratulations are also extended to her on a fine performance in finishing 2nd in the Cork to Cobh 15mile run recently. Congratulations also to the top 2 in Poulmucka this year, Sergio and Sandis who finished 1st and 2nd in Cork also. Sergio runs with the Clonliffe Harriers Club but resides in Cahir. His winning time was 76 minutes for the 15 mile run. This shows the status that the Poulmucka 5 mile has reached over the years and has prompted the club to running a 5 mile in November, where you guess your time and leave the watch behind. This would cater for those who are fun runners and competitors alike. It is proposed to run it on a Sunday morning and interest should be expressed to Tom Cahill or Niall O Ceallaigh or committee members. The club would like to wish the best of luck to all those who are preparing for the Dublin City Marathon on the October Bank Holiday and hope that you all come home safe and sound.
On a final note of congratulations, the club would like to wish Tom Wall and Kate McLoughlin the very best in their new life as husband and wife. They were married recently in Doon, Co Limerick and both have been active committee members of the Poulmucka Club over the years.
Notice of the next meeting will be posted next week.

POULMUCKA PLOUGHING ASSOCIATION
The Association would like to congratulate its members who competed at the All-Ireland Ploughing Championships which were held in Athy, Co Kildare. This is a special year for our Association as our member Noel Howley was placed first in his class and is now the 2009 Junior All-Ireland Ploughing Champion. Noel was presented with the Cantwell Coffee Cup at the prize giving ceremony. A second All-Ireland would have been an incredible achievement and we were very close in the extremely competitive Intermediate class with Larry Bergin finishing in second place. Larry was presented with the NPA Cup.
In the under 28 class John O Brien Jnr finished in 4th place, this was a super result for one of our youngest competitors. The standard of workmanship in all the competitions was very high, therefore great credit must go to all the competitors who represented our association and South Tipperary in Athy.

Novice Ploughing Match:
The association held a novice match last Saturday the 3rd October in Rosegreen. It was wonderful to see six new competitors at work, well done to all of them. It is not easy to plough in front of a crowd for the first time. Many thanks to the Bergin family who provided the land for the competition and to those who helped organise and run the event.
