There was a most enjoyable work-out at the Duneske Leisure Centre in Cahir last week. Mary-Bríd Whelan went through a rigorous form of exercise. It was discovered that Mary has an interest in music, singing being her speciality and at the moment is learning to play the Bodhran. Chatting about this did not lead to an easier course of exercise for the members however!
Why not join Cahir Active Retirement each week at the Duneske Leisure Centre and enjoy the keep fit course. They meet at 11am each Thursday morning.
Information regarding Cahir Active Retirement Association may be obtained by contacting The Secretary at cahiractiveretirement@gmail.com or by Phone on 052 74 441892.

AIB JUNIOR SAVER COMPETITION
Over the summer months the AIB Bank in Cahir ran a competition to encourage younger children to save. When they opened a Junior Saver account, which is suitable for children under 12, they went into a raffle for a bicycle. There was great interest in the competition. The draw took place in October and our lucky winner was Zara O’Mahoney from Clogheen. Well done Zara.

AIB Junior competition winner Zara O'Mahoney with cousin Makaela ,sister Siobhan, Student Officer Sharon Kenny and Bank Manager Tadhg Howard.

This Friday 6th November is the deadline for your chance to take part in the Photographic Exhibition that is due to take place in Cahir House Hotel on Sunday 15th November, 2009, from 1pm-5.30pm. It will be a chance for your group/organisation to meet the public and show what you have done over the years, through the photos you have taken. If you would like to take part in this upcoming exhibition and take this opportunity to showcase your organisation/group and its achievements, just contact Helen at the Enterprise Centre, by the closing date of Friday 6th November.

We will then allocate you a space at the Exhibition. This would also be an excellent PR opportunity and a chance to recruit new members and/or sponsors. Cahir Development Association will do this at no cost to your organisation. If you would like more information please call Helen Quirke on 052 7442616 or email reception@cahirda.com .

COLAISTE ROUNDABOUT FOOTPATH?
Labour Party Cllr. Seanie Lonergan has made representations to the County Council some time ago concerning the lack of a footpath at the roundabout at the Colaiste/ Rosemount area. Seanie pointed out the concerns that pedestrians, parents with prams and wheelchair users have trying to negotiate safely around this busy junction. The Cllr. will impress upon the powers that be, the urgency of this project.

ROSEMOUNT NOTES
The monthly clean-up is going to continue over the coming months. Because of the winter dark evenings, we are now going to meet at the same place (The Rock) on the FIRST SATURDAY MORNING of the month at 11am. On this Saturday, 7th November we will meet at 11am to do our bit to keep our estate tidy. We want to thank all those who have done so much in making this effort in the past. We would also like more of our residents to join us in this community effort. Our work has not gone unnoticed and our standing as an estate in the Tidy Towns Competition has continued to improve. It is also an opportunity to get to know your neighbours and be proud of where you live.

CAHIR YOUTH CLUB
The new Youth Resource Centre is now open. Come along and meet your friends, play snooker/pool/table-tennis or just listen to music. We meet every Friday night at 7 - 8.30pm. All age groups are most welcome. The building is located at the old Tech school on Church Street. You can use the small gate entrance to right of Granary car-park. We also plan to organise other social events in the near future, so watch this space.

ABBEY TAVERN
On Friday 6th November the presentation of a cheque will take place in the Abbey Tavern. This money was the proceeds of a ‘Mammy and Baby Walk’ around Cahir that took place recently. The event was staged in aid of Cahir River Rescue and the fantastic amount of €2,900 was raised. Well done to all involved.
Apparently there are some great photos, hopefully we will get the chance to see some!

BENEFIT NIGHT
A benefit night will take place in the Ballroom of Cahir House Hotel on the evening of Saturday 7th November. It is being held in aid Veronica O’Meara, Pat (aka Fridge) O’Meara’s wife, who has recently been taken very ill. There will be a band and DJ on the night. POULMUCKA PLOUGHING?

Annual Ploughing Match.
It is all action in Poulmucka at the moment, as the committee is busy organizing everything for their annual ploughing match, while the ploughmen are out in the fields practicing their skills in an effort to perfect their work so that it might catch the judge’s eye on the day of the match. One critical adjustment to the plough, learned through those hours of practice can be the difference between making it through to the All Ireland final next year or left wondering What If?
Sponsorship, Raffle Tickets, Preparing the field, erecting the marquee, liaising with the ICA, contacting other ploughing associations, securing the prizes, this is the work of the committee. In fact as soon as the match is finished, thoughts turn to next year and the quest to secure a site for the ploughing match. We are delighted with the site for this year’s match, which will be held on the lands of Sean & Pia Crowe, Clonmel Road, Cahir, (to the rear of the 4 X 4 garage) by kind permission on Saturday 07th November 2009. This is good land in continuous tillage, therefore it will be an all stubble event. It should provide an excellent challenge to the competitors. Competitions start at 12 Noon So, Good Luck to all & God Speed the Plough.

ICA FEDERATION FUNCTION
On Thursday last the 29th October, the South Tipp Federation of ICA held their annual afternoon dinner dance in Cahir House Hotel. All together, 75 ladies from various regional groups came together to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of entertainment. In conjunction with the function, a Best Dressed Centenary Lady Competition took place. Several of the
Ladies dressed up in period costume. The winner was Maureen O’Connell from Aherlow ICA. The 2 other competitors Betty Wilson and Mary White from Rathkeevan ICA, deserve a mention for the effort that went into their costumes. Anne O’Connell, federation President presented the prize to the winner. The fun continued with a raffle, many prizes and of course, dancing. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

To launch the Centenary celebrations, the National President and the President of the Women’s Institute of Northern Ireland will be special guests at a Centenary Social to be held in Cahir House Hotel on Saturday 21st November, 2009 at 7.30pm. THE LATE THOMAS EGAN
The death took place on the 3rd October of Thomas Egan of Clonmore, Cahir. Tommy as he was known to all and sundry would have been ninety years old on the 7th November. Tommy served his time as a mechanic with Cahir House Garages and entered the garage trade, having garages in Cahir and Clonmel with his brothers. Tommy continued to repair motors until well into his eighties. An avid animal lover, he will be missed by his friends and neighbours and greatly missed by his family. Tommy was interred on the 5th October and the funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. O’Dwyer, Fr. Knight, Fr. Carey and Fr. O’Bric. Tommy is survived by his Loving wife Eileen, Sons Eamon, Gerard, Tony, John, Donal, Daughter Catherine and grandchildren. Deepest sympathy is offered to his family. May he rest in peace.

CHARITY HUNT RIDE
A Munster Jersey was recently donated to the Mangan family to raise funds for their son Stuart who sadly passed away tragically during the year. The jersey was worn during Munster's successful Heineken Cup campaign by Ronan O'Gara in 2006 and is signed by the entire Munster team and donated by Ronan O'Gara to help Stuart Mangan who was paralysed whilst playing rugby. The Charity ride was originally arranged to raise funds for Stuart's treatment and after this death Stuart's family very generously donated the jersey to Premier Harriers and Rockwell Rovers GAA club for their Charity Hunt Ride which was run on Sunday 25th October to raise funds for Cahir & Cashel Day Care Centres, Cancer Care, Clonmel and Operation Smile. The weather held up and a great day was had by all.
