CAHIR NOTES 18TH NOVEMBER
PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION
If you happened to be one of the many people who went to see the Photographic Exhibition in Cahir House Hotel last Sunday, 15th November, I’m sure you will agree that it really was superb.
Cahir Development Association is very proud to have been involved in such a wonderful event. All in all there were 20 Exhibitors and this made for a vast array of beautiful photographs. It was impossible to just do a quick walk through the hall, because many of the photos exhibited contained people that were known to you, often in their younger years and merited careful scrutiny.
It was also a great opportunity to meet with all of the Clubs or Groups representatives, to swap stories, ask questions, and get an insight into what each club/group does and learn of their long term goals and plans.
Cahir Active Retirement, Cahir Dive Club, Cahir Bears, Cahir Bingo, Cahir Day Care Centre, Cahir Scouts, Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, Duneske Leisure Centre, Playground, Craft Granary, Cahir Business and Training Centre, Cahir Farmers Market, Cahir Park AFC, Premier Harriers, F.C.A, John Quirke-Scarborough and the Twinning, Sensory Garden, this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Mary Jenkins and Cahir Development Association showed photographs in the exhibition, so you can imagine how many there were!
Because it seems that not everyone knew that the Exhibition was taking place, consequently Cahir house Hotel kindly gave the use of the hall for the exhibition to continue for Monday and Tuesday of this week too. Hopefully this will have given more people a chance to see it for themselves.
Lastly, Cahir Development Association would like to sincerely thank all those who took part in this event and by doing so contributed to its success and Cahir House Hotel for the kind use of their hall. And due to the success of this event, it has been decided that another such exhibition will take place sometime in 2010, hopefully, even then more Clubs/Groups will take part.
Once again well done to all involved.

SAVING THE ARTS
Clonmel Junction Festival lends its support to the National Campaign for the Arts (NCFA). The NCFA is a broad and inclusive coalition that reflects the scale, reach and diversity of the arts in Ireland today. Its membership has a national reach that includes major festivals, venues, producers and representative bodies. There is a website and Facebook site dedicated to the campaign with an online petition which we urge people to sign if they haven’t done so already. Time is ticking away with the Budget coming up on December 9th
There are many ways you can support the National Campaign for the Arts including meeting your local politicians and joining your local arts worker group but one of the quickest and easiest things you can do is to sign the petition.

COMPREHENSIVE FOOTBALL VICTORY FOR SENIOR BOYS
The senior footballers got their MacGowan campaign off to a flyer with a comprehensive defeat of Thurles CBS on a scoreline of 4-18 to 0-5 on Friday last. No fewer than nine players got themselves on the scoresheet in what proved to be a very one sided game. With the Coláiste leading 3-12 to 0-1 at the break, manager Shane Ronayne made the most of the opportunity to use his full panel. The urgency shown in the first half was not shown in the second half, but the Colaiste kept the score borad ticking over and ensured that Thurles could not mount a meaningful comeback.

CAHIR YOUTH RESOURCE CENTRE
I finally got the chance to pop into the new Youth Resource Centre to visit with all the folks there. After having a brief chat with Ann Heffernan, Mossie Casey and Sheena Buttimer, I was whisked off and given the Grand Tour of the building by a very obliging Maurice Quinlan.
I must say I was truly impressed. The building consists downstairs of several warm, very tastefully decorated, spacious rooms with lots of great facilities for the youths that visit. There are music facilities, pool and table tennis facilities a fully fitted kitchen (it is almost finished) in time with self service facilities, there will also shortly be a new television and Dvd Player to show movies and all supervised by the very capable persons mentioned above.
Upstairs there are several state of the art meeting rooms and an office. Ann Heffernan tells me there are lots of things in the pipeline for the future. Well done to all involved. It is really good to know that on a cold wet winters evening (which last Friday was!) your children have a warm, safe and most importantly fun place to spend their time.
Check out the new Youth Resource Centre, behind the old VEC building on Church Street in Cahir, 7pm- 8.30pm on Friday evenings.

CAHIR CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES?
It is very easy to keep your head up and play with conviction when you are winning but it takes a special team of players to do the same when you a behind by many scores. But this is exactly what we witnessed last Saturday on a cold and wintry November morning. Our U16 girls were playing the County "C" semi- final against Nenagh and they were taking a battering. Nenagh were stronger from the start. The mid field pairing of Ashling O Connor and Aoife O Gorman worked at a tremendously high pace for the full duration of the game with the ever efficient Ashling McCarthy giving a huge performance and her never say die attitude will no doubt stand her in good stead throughout her life. Goalie Sadhbh O Donnell was very busy all day and her attitude has to be commended as no matter what the situation during the game, she kept her head up and her clearances and puckouts were without fault. Donna Casey along with Emma Buckley and Niamh Walsh were taking a lot of punishment from the Nenagh girls but they kept their heads and some great clearances particularly in the second half showed signs of great commitment - an admirable quality.
The Cahir forwards of Siobhan Heffernan, Kirsty Downey, Alana Burke, Clara O Donnell, and Rachel O Dwyer had a quiet enough day but things started to change in the second half and the girls were ready for whatever came their way. Ciara Lonergan, Fiona Reece and Avril Hearne in the full back line didn't have it so quiet! Constant advancing by the Nenagh forwards meant this full back line got no rest, but as with the entire team they consistently battled hard and the end result was not of their making.
As said already, the second half saw Cahir come into the game more with Ashling McCarthy scoring a fine goal but as soon as that score was registered, Nenagh were back at us again and increased their lead by another goal. Ashling put over another point within 5 minutes and Roisin Howard who had come on for Avril Hearne who was unable to continue as she was ill, put another goal past the Nenagh keeper. Cahir then were awarded a penalty for a foul in the small square and no doubt Aoife O Gorman was aiming for the back of the gaol except that the goalies spare hurley got in the way and sent the ball wide. The referee noted the infringement and the penalty was taking again but was sent out for a "65.
The resulting free saw a point by Ashling McCarthy and another point by Emma Buckley was the final score for this very brave and committed Cahir team. Well done to managers Sally Casey and Michael Lonergan who along with Mary Walsh and Martin Halpin have guided this team over the year. Although beaten the girls looked very well, sporting their new jersey’s which have been very kindly sponsored( and for which the club are very grateful) by Cahir Doors and their proprietor, Paul Lonergan.
Meabh’s Magnets and Emma's Angels gave us all another entertaining first game in the indoor competition on Wednesday night last. Both captain’s Meabh Casey and Emma Casey were on fire from the very start. Ciara Quirke brought off some great saves for the Magnets while Caoimhe O Brien was just as efficient in the Angels goal. We saw super skill and experience from the sticks of Rosanna Kiely, Fiona McEniry, Sophie Boyle, Arwin Duggan and Jennifer Quirke. Ciara Brennan, Ashling Burke, Niamh Hickey and Micheala Grace Ginty showed great signs of improvement, while the newcomers Caoimhe Costello, Niamh Costigan, Eva Conway and Clodagh Malone were a joy to watch. With the final of the competition being held next week all is still to play for = the Magnets are on 10 points while the Angels are on 8points.
Niamh Nuggets made up for their loss this week with a great catch up on Erin’s Elf’s. Again both captains were taking their role very responsibly with Erin and Niamh turning up at all ends of the pitch. Exceptionally strong for the Nuggets were Alana Dohney, Shauna O Donovan and Aoife Cashman, while the Elf’s Emma Walsh, Margaret Reidy and Derbhla O Brien were to the fore. Again next week will prove to be a very exciting game with only 1 point between these two teams as they go into the final
CONGRATULATIONS

BON VOYAGE
