CAHIR NOTES 14TH APRIL 10

“CAHIR GO LEIR FESTIVAL” DATES SET
On 1st March last month, a meeting was hosted by the Promoters of Tri3, Triathlon Event Promoters who wished to target Cahir to host to a Triathlon on Saturday 10th July this year. The meeting took place in Cahir House Hotel and was attended by a cross section of the community. The conversation soon turned to the possibility of resurrecting the Annual Festival in town and that the weekend of the 10th July would be the perfect weekend to run it around. As there could be up to 1500 people attached to this triathlon event and as it takes place on a Saturday, it seems sensible to run a 3 day event to entertain all those that come to Cahir because of the Triathlon as well as all those who live in Cahir and surrounding areas.
So there it is, Cahir will have a festival, the new name for it is “Cahir Go Leir Festival” (which means all of you in Cahir, correct me if I’m wrong please) and it will take place from Friday 9th July until Sunday 11th July. With a Triathlon event (check out Tri3.ie) taking place on Saturday 10th July, an exciting fun weekend is in store, so mark your calendars! There are plenty of events being organised for the festival as we speak, Cahir Park AFC are organising a Field Day, there will be a Crazy Boat Race and a Parade, there will also be plenty of fantastic Music on a stage in The Square along with lots of the old favourites such as The Queens, Treasure Hunt, The Barman’s Race and a Funday Sunday in the Inch Field with a Dog Show and lots more.
South Tipperary County Council has committed their support/help for this festival. However, needless to say, financial support in the form of sponsorship /donations is essential for this festival to succeed and bring vital income to the town. So letters for Traders, Vintners and businesses are being prepared as we speak to state what is needed, and these will be distributed shortly. Please help in any way that you can.
Watch this space for all updates on what will take place in the new” Cahir Go Leir Festival”!

DUNESKE NEWS
During a visit to Duneske last week I was delighted to see a good turnout of children for their Rugby Camp. Rugby Trainer T.J. Hickey proved popular with the children and it looks likely that a weekly training session will arise from this week’s camp. If you did miss out on the Camp it is still not too late to enrol for the weekly training.
Jackie informs me that there was also great turnout for the Easter Egg Hunt last Saturday. Indeed there was not a bit of chocolate to be found after it was over! It is good to see that children are being well catered for in Duneske.
However, the notice on the door of the gym which read “The 20 minute Challenge” really sparked my interest so I asked Amanda what it was all about.
Amanda explained that this Challenge is aimed at adults who wish to shed excess weight, so Duneske have developed “The 20 minute Challenge”, a six week programme to help adults achieve their weight loss. As it is generally felt that most people who start programmes in the gym do not complete them for a couple of reasons, one is often that they have to commit to 1 hour sessions several times a week (which is time consuming) and the other is that often after two or three weeks they get bored and then just give up.
So “The 20 minute Challenge” was born. This is an alternative way to train which is shorter, (20 minutes) more varied, with less visits to the gym (only 3 times a week) but with an intensive workout programme under the guidance of a designated Gym Instructor. Does it work though?
Six individuals (Guinea pigs if you like) completed the first Challenge over six weeks. The results were truly impressive. (One Guinea pig is a friend of mine) The minimum weight loss was 7lbs and the maximum loss was 14 pounds and all from only a total of six hours training over six weeks.
This sounds like a winner to me. Of course Amanda also explained that due to the hands-on nature of the Challenge, Duneske can only cater for a maximum of six people at a time. But if you really are serious about shedding those unwanted excess pounds, why not be one of the first to call to reception and ask for details of this Challenge from the Instructor on duty and see the results firsthand.

CAHIR PARK AFC
The new Club House is looking a picture thanks to Brendan and his staff. It is well worth a visit. Our Centenary Sponsored Walk will take place on 3rd May. We will meet at the Clubhouse at 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to take part in the walk. A golf classic will take place in Cahir Park Golf Club on 18th June.

CAHIR COUNTRY MARKET
Spring has come to Cahir Country Market! Visit the Community Hall on Friday mornings to see a fabulous display of bedding plants, fruit and vegetables including rhubarb fresh in.

CAHIR CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES?
We ended this season’s indoor Camogie on a high note last Wednesday evening at Colaiste Dun Iascaigh. With the Magnets and the Angels level from the previous week it was on an even keel that the game started. Rosanna Kiely was on fire for the Magnets and opened the scoring in under a minute from the throw in. She followed up this with another score before Caoimhe O’Brien for the Angels opened their scoring. Playing a fine game at full back was Meabh Casey for the Magnets while Emma Casey for the Angels was also well on target with all her shots. Ciara Breenan was taking great care of the Magnets goal while Micheala Fogarty was equally diligent as the Angels keeper. Niamh Hickey was working very well for the Magnets while her sister Caoimhe was having her first game for the Angels and doing very well indeed. Another set of sisters on opposing teams were Lauren and Anika Moloney who are proving to be players to watch out for. Eva Conway and Niamh Costigan were working up a real sweat for the Angels but they were constantly under the eye of the Magnets Camoimhe Costello who scored a beautiful goal for her team.

After a good 30 minutes of play the Magnets edged out just ahead of the Angels to gain victory in this great game. All the players received medals and some sweets from Club Chairman Martin Halpin. The next game saw two much depleted teams take to the floor. Both the Nuggets and the Elfs were down players so we were indebted to the three boys who donned their helmets to make up the numbers. Conor and Evan helped out the Nuggets while Dylan took over in the goal for the Elfs. Once again this week, Grainne White proved to be turning into a fantastic full back with great clearances for the Nuggets. Erin O’Regan was striking the ball with great confidence and Leah Fitzgerald was showing great improvement for the Elfs. Katie Halpin worked her magic for the Elfs and put a fine goal past keeper Conor while shortly after this the Nugget's Elama Casey side stepped Dylan and brought the game level. Derbhla O’Brien is showing signs of being a fine player in the making while Laura Quirke is starting to come into her and is holding out great promise of a very good player in the coming months.

This evenly contested game came to an end just as it should with both sides level at the final whistle. Again both teams received their medals and sweets and the evening came to an end. Next week will see all players outdoors with training in Duneske starting at 7pm. The club would like to take this opportunity to again thank Mrs. Finnigan Burke, principal of Colaiste Dun Iascaigh for allowing us to use the school and to care taker Paddy Lonergan who had the school open for us every night. This is a fantastic facility to have at our disposal and indeed we are very grateful.

READERS NEWS AND VIEWS
I had a bit of a rant last week about out of order bank machines but neglected to mention that if it wasn’t for the indoor bank machine in Dolan’s SuperValu, I really would have been in trouble! Thank you to them.
If you have any news, views or notes for the Cahir page, you can contact me anytime on 086 1022014 or email me on caplicetaylor@hotmail.com. By Sunday at the latest please as that is when I do the notes. Thank you.
