CAHIR NOTES 21TH APRIL 2010

CAHIR DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY LOTTO
The Cahir Development Lotto was not won this week and the Jackpot next week has built up to the tidy sum of €2,800 which would certainly pay for a nice holiday. With this thought in mind and dreaming of sipping a glass of wine under the hot sun, I started thinking of all those other lucky people over the years that have benefitted from winning the local Lotto. So I took it upon myself to get some details from Cahir Development about the number of winners that they have each year and the amount of money has been won.
Just over the last three years, there have been 5 lucky winners who have won a total of €27,800, and there has been a total of €22,370 given out in smaller prizes (Lucky Dips) during that period. That is a total of just over €50,000 in prize money. But that is only half the story. During the same period commissions have been paid out to various different clubs and organisations in the amount of €82,456 – clubs such as Cahir Park AFC, Cahir GAA Club, The Bingo Committee, Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, and several Residents Associations. Also repayments have been made on Christmas Lights in the amount of €45,240 and on the Duneske land in the amount of €37,939.
This is quite a success story and long may it continue. And at the moment, Cahir Development Association is considering freshening things up, to make the purchase of the tickets even more attractive. I hear rumblings that we can look forward to bigger Jackpots and the return of match 3’s in place of the Lucky Dips, and I even hear that they are considering bringing back the ever popular ‘Spin the Wheel’.
The numbers drawn last week were; 4, 6, 15 and 16. The draw was witnessed by Mary Guthrie. The 5 Lucky Dips winners who each received €30 were; Catherine Murphy, 2 Abbey St, Cahir, Corina Dooley, Newtown, Cahir, Noel Sweeney, 6 Rosemount Gardens, Cahir, K. Williams, (C/o S. Marnane) and Ann Sweeney, Mitchelstown Road, Cahir.
The next draw will take place on Wednesday the 21st April 2010 at 12 noon The Jackpot as mentioned above will be €2,800. Be in with a chance to win, tickets are available right up to the last minute at the Enterprise Centre. Profit’s servicing community projects in Cahir.

SWISHING EVENT RAISES €2,250
On Friday 9th April, a Swishing Event was held in Cahir House Hotel and €2,250 was raised in aid of the people of Haiti. The evening was a great success and was enjoyed by all who attended from far and wide. While the ladies enjoyed a cheese and wine/juice reception, Anne Marie Davis gave a very impressive beauty demonstration. Hughie from the Shamrock Lounge acted as Compere on the night and was very comfortable among all the ladies! Many thanks to all who helped to make the event possible, including Cahir House Hotel, Bay Lough Cheese, The Apple Farm, Supervalu and the many sponsors who donated spot prizes. Thanks also to the shops who provided rails and hangers and to the two men behind the scenes, Brendan and John. Last but not least, a huge thank you to all the hard working ladies that made it happen. See you at the next one!

NEW FACILITY FOR CAHIR
It is always good to see new facilities for the general public in come to Cahir. The new 24 hour laser/credit card activated petrol pump in Gleeson’s Garage is a great addition. It is not a cash machine but if you need to fill up outside garage hours (I like to fill up before going on a journey and often it is too early for garages to be open) then all you have to do is insert your card in the machine on the wall of the garage and the petrol pump will give you the amount of petrol you have paid for. Isn’t that good? Congratulation’s and well done to Gleeson’s Tyres and Garage in Cahir.
RÉALT PROGRAMME FOR UGANDA
Local lady Orla Clohosey will be going to Uganda as a volunteer teacher for eight weeks during the summer months. She will be one of a group of seventeen teachers who are all volunteers with the Réalt Programme, organised by the primary teacher training colleges. She will be living in a village with the local Ugandans and teaching the native Ugandan children. All volunteers must raise €3000 each. This is to cover the costs of the eight week period which includes substantial financial aid towards the purchase of equipment, resources for the school and also to give financial aid to community development projects in the village. To achieve this financial target Orla will be placing hampers for raffle in some local shops whose owners have been kind enough to allow her to do so. She would very much appreciate your support in her effort to fundraise for this worthy cause as education is the key to a better life for the children in Uganda.

Good luck to you Orla.

Well done to you Mary!
