CAHIR NOTES 5th MAY 2010

LAUNCH OF TRI 3 SERIES IN CAHIR
The launch of the much anticipated TRI3 Triathlon Series will take place on Wednesday May 5th at 12 noon in the Castle car park in Cahir. Local people, County Council representatives, Garda representatives, dignitaries, school teachers and children will join with the Tri 3 creators to celebrate the official announcement of what is going to be a fantastic event for the people of Cahir. CAHIR TIDY TOWNS
The Cahir Tidy Towns Group held a meeting on Wednesday night last to discuss the 135 items from the Frank Donaldson 3 year plan that need to be acted on over the next 3 years.
These have been divided into year 1, 2 & 3. The tasks for 2010 were discussed and some people volunteered to take certain jobs on board. Hilary Tarrant from the Tipperary Volunteer Agency was present and said that the Volunteer Agency would provide some assistance in certain areas with manual help, provided there was backup from residents in that area.
All groups and residents are been asked to do their bit for Tidy Towns and businesses in the town are asked to ensure that their premises are in reasonable condition over the coming months. It may be beneficial to go through the 3 year plan to see if advice has been recommended for their premises as it is in some cases.
Carmel Dolan of SuperValu has announced that they have 5 Tidy Towns Packs on offer to Residents Groups on a first come, first serve basis. They can be secured by contacting the Chairman, Andy Moloney on 086-3609110 who will arrange collection.
As with every group, more people are needed to achieve our targets. There is no need to attend meetings but please be vigilant towards litter and try to maintain general tidiness in your own area. But if you do attend meetings you can avail of paint offers, free packs and free manual assistance if needed. In some cases we have an offer of digger work provided it is available on the day.
This is a big effort by the Community and in this current economic situation we have to rely on limited input from local government. However, the County Council will continue with certain services that they have already been providing such as spraying, hanging baskets and the sweeping of estates all to be kept under their charge. As always, any and all help is very welcome. The plan will be available in the Enterprise Centre to collect and see if there is something in it that you can take on as your own project.
There are also plans to rejuvenate the Square and the fountain area as previously reported and a plan will be put up in the Library and Council offices shortly. Comments both positive and negative are welcome so that we can get a general consensus on this topic.
The next meeting will be Wednesday 12th May at 7.30pm in The Shamrock Lounge. In the meantime, book your free SuperValu pack with the Chairman and don’t forget to have a look at the 3 year plan to see if there is something to interest you or your Group.

PRESENTATION TO BARNORA CRESCENT RESIDENTS
A beautiful plaque was presented last Wednesday evening to Bernie Long of the Barnora Crescent Resident Association from the Cahir Gardai. The plaque is a token of appreciation for the effort and work that went into the Family Funday that was organized by the residents and took place on 27th September last year.
Garda Pat English came to Barnora Crescent along with his two co workers Eva and Mairead to present the plaque and have a chat with the residents.
It was certainly very nice to see praise where praise is due, the residents of Barnora were delighted to receive the plaque and they were all still chatting away to Pat English and company when I had to leave for another meeting.
It is very good to see such close community relations  between our local Gardai and residents groups, long may it continue and well done to all.

ROSEMOUNT NOTES
The residents in Rosemount Estate would like to thank Harrington Builders for grass cutting over the past 10 years. As it is a private estate the grass cutting is now our own responsibility. For the people who have paid already toward the grass cutting we say thank you. For the people who are refusing to pay, especially house owners, we find it a total lack of community spirit. The amount being requested is very small, €25 per household for the year. We are all living in this estate together and it is the responsibility of us all to keep it in good condition and looking well.

CAHIR FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB
The Summer Outing will take place on 19th June, 2010. We will be visiting Heywood Gardens, Shakelton Gardens and Emo House and Gardens. A very successful 30th Anniversary Gala Night was held in Cahir House Hotel on April 28th last. The Club would like to Thank Cahir House for accommodating us so well, Kilcoran Garden Centre for the Raffle plants, Al O’Dwyer and Carmel Morgan, Ballylooby for their delicious Anniversary Cakes and last but not least a special thanks to all our supporters.

BEECHPARK RESIDENTS
We had a quick clean up on Saturday last as there was very little litter, it only took an hour so we feel that if we had a quick clean up every month it would keep the estate looking well. We would like to say thanks to all the children who eagerly helped us also thanks to the Council who were very quick to pick up the bags and a very big thanks to Willie for keeping the grass cut. Last month’s 50/50 winners were Billy Coffey, Brendan Fitzgerald, Eadaoin Lonergan and Billy Coffey, congratulations to them all.

PARENTS COUNCIL, CONVENT OF MERCY PRIMARY SCHOOL?
The community spirit of parents and children came together to produce some great results during the week when the Parents Council of the Convent of Mercy Primary School presented a cheque for €6,000 to the principal, Ms Ann Carroll. This was the total fundraised through the year from the children's Non-Uniform Days, sale of shamrock and book sale. The parents, for their part, held a bag pack at Dunnes Stores, Oakville, Clonmel, they also held a Halloween disco and a Cake sale and raffle. Our thanks go to all who supported the fundraising so well.

CAHIR CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES
We have encountered some thrilling games of camogie over the past fortnight with both the U 14 and U12 teams.
The 14's first challenge was in Duneske on Tuesday April 20th with Burgess being our opponents Aodeann O ‘Gorman was on fire throughout this game scoring a total of 1-1 from play. Burgess proved a strong opposition and indeed we were down by a goal going into the second half.  Ashling Moloney scored a goal within a few minutes of the throw in and we were back on level terms again.  Once more Burgess took the lead but tremendous play from Ashling McCarthy dragged Cahir ahead once again and we ended up victorious by 1 point.

This week we played Toomevara in Duneske and once again they seemed to have the upper hand of us with Cahir only marking their place on the score board just before half time. Exceptional play and defending from Emma Buckley and the return of the injured Roisin Howard saw Cahir battle hard and close in on the huge lead of Toome to lose only by a point in the final minute. Final score Toomevara 4-7 Cahir 5-3.

The U12 team traveled to Toomevara on Thursday night last and found a hard challenge facing them in the home team. Ashling Moloney and Aoife Corcoran played out of their skins but unfortunately just were not strong enough to beat off the challenge they faced.

Just to remind all remind all that outstanding membership fees must please be returned to Treasurer Margaret O ' Donnell as soon as possible.

THE LATE GERRY RYAN
I simply could not finish the notes without paying tribute to the late Gerry Ryan. Like many of you, I still can’t quite come to terms with the news of his untimely death. Gerry has been part of my life and probably yours for more than 20 years, even when I lived in London I still tuned into his show.
2fm have certainly come up trumps and for most of last weekend the station has been devoted to tributes to Gerry from friends, colleagues and fans. The truth is that there is no replacing Gerry and 2fm will never be the same without him. The nations love for Gerry has been proven by the sheer volume of sympathies that have been extended to his family and partner through books of condolence, text messages, emails, on Facebook and by phone.
Gerry was no doubt a wonderful broadcaster, often controversial and sometimes irreverent but in the main a very funny, entertaining, intelligent and caring man and this came across so well on his show. Thank you for the magic, the mad moments and for the memories Gerry. You are irreplaceable and you will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.
