Postbox
The postbox at Kilmoyler has been taken out of commission temporarily and will be replaced in the near future by a more serviceable one. According to Cllr Seanie Lonergan, it seems that any post left in the old box overnight is being eaten by snails and such. The post office has assured the Cllr that it will be back in service soon.
Signing up for the Annual Bike Run on 13th June were Robbie Martin and Michael Doyle

OLD SPECTACLES
Here’s a reminder from the Cahir and District Lions Club President Seanie Lonergan about the old spectacles collection. The containers are in most villages and also in the town of Cahir. Look out for the notice that is adjacent to collection points. The spectacles are recycled and used in the third world countries. This project has been ongoing in parts of the country for years and is of huge benefit to the poor and needy. Please donate your old glasses and support this worthy project.

DUCK SANCTUARY
If you haven’t seen the newly built duck sanctuary in the near corner of the Inch Field yet then you really should take a look. Members of Cahir Gun Club and Cahir Anglers put in a lot of hard work to complete the project and place 50 ducklings in the sanctuary. It is hoped that the new ducklings will adapt well to the river and return each year to nest. They have made a fine job of it too.
Thanks are due to John Gregory, Paul Prendergast, Kevin Burke, John Burke, Dan Barrett, Paul Burke, Richie Brooks, Bill Coffey, Jimmy Armitage, John Lawlor, Tom Coffey and young Thomas Burke for all their efforts.

COUNTERING THE CREDIT CRUNCH & RECESSION, CAHIR CREDIT UNION TAKES THE INITIATIVE
For many of us, the last year has seen a huge deterioration in living standards, whether from pay-cuts redundancies, income levies or reductions in pension. This coupled with the soaring cost of fuel and the hardest winter in living memory has concentrated the mind on economising as never before.
Cutting the cost of home heating is the obvious first step as the results are instantaneous and clearly seen to be effective. Attic and wall insulation saves money from day one and continues to do so. Other steps are equally effective. Following consultations with some long established local firms, Cahir Credit Union has organised an information evening for the community in Cahir House Hotel on Tuesday 22nd June at 8.00 p.m. where the whole area of fuel economy will be outlined.
Furthermore, Cahir Credit Union has launched an Energy Home Loan Package* to provide loans to our Members, if required, so that all our homes can be warmer and more fuel efficient, next winter.
Why not come along on the 22nd June and meet the experts who will outline the steps you can take to improve energy efficiency in your home. You will learn the true cost and the many Government Grants available that makes the changes affordable and worthwhile. Tea and refreshments will be served.
(* Terms and Conditions will apply.)
CAHIR FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB
The Club will hold their annual Outing on Saturday 19th June. They will visit Heyward, Shackleton and Emo House and Gardens in Abbeyleix. The bus will leave the castle car park at 9am sharp.

CAHIR CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES
Sincere thanks to all who traveled to Dr. Morris park in Thurles on Sunday morning last for the U10 "Let’s Go" Blitz. This hopefully will be the way forward for underage camogie in the future where participation rather than winning is the name of the game.
All the sixteen girls who traveled played on average 4 games each and whether they played under the Cahir banner or on a combination team with other clubs the object of the day was participation and making new friends. Well done to Siobhan Ryan and her team for organising the event. Unfortunately we had to endure some inclement weather and again our gratitude to the parents who traveled with us and to the young supporters who were with us also. Great credit is due to the following girls who came and played some great camogie:
Shauna O' Donovan, Niamh McKenna, Sarah Burke, Leah Fitzgerald, Erin O' Regan, Meabh Casey, Emma Casey, Fiona McEniry, Katie Halpin, Ashling Burke, Arwin Duggan, Aoife Cashman, Emily Lenihan, Ciara Quirke, Margaret Reidy and Emma Walsh.
BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR ALLOWANCE
The back to school Clothing and Footwear Allowance Scheme is open from the 16th June, 2010.
Kevin Brunnick of Sinn Fein advises people who are entitled to claim this payment that it is important that they apply as soon as possible from the 16th June. Last year there was a lot of people waiting in September, so apply on time and give the local office time to process your claim.
This allowance is intended to help towards the cost of children's school uniforms and footwear at the beginning of the school year. The scheme is run by the Health Service Executive and operates from the beginning of June to the end of September each year.
You may qualify if your household income is below a certain amount* and you are:
getting a social welfare (including Family Income Supplement) or a Health Service Executive payment,
or
taking part in approved employment schemes, such as Back to Work Allowance (Employees), Back to Work Enterprise Allowance, Community Employment, Revenue Job Assist, Social Economy Programme (Grant Aided Employees), Job Initiative, Workplace or Youth reach
or
taking part in an Area-Based Partnership Scheme or a FÁS, Cert or LES training scheme
or
taking part in a Rural Social Scheme and allowed to keep your secondary benefits
There are two rates of payment, one for children aged 2 to 11, the other for children aged 12 to 17.
There is another payment which applies to 18 year olds to compensate for the reduction in child benefit. The local office will be able to let individuals know who is entitled to apply for this. The allowance is normally paid by cheque. You apply to the Community Welfare Officer (CWO) at your local office of the Health Service Executive.
