CAHIR NOTES 26th MAY 10
IMPROVED RIVER ACCESS OFFICIAL OPENING.
I really don’t think there is any place nicer to be than down by the river on a very hot and humid day like last Saturday 22nd May. The reason that there was quite a gathering of people in the beautiful grounds of the Swiss Cottage was that the Official Opening of the Cahir Brown Trout Angling Centre of Excellence Improved River Access was taking place.
This was a collaboration of several bodies, Southern Regional Fisheries Board in conjunction with Failte Ireland, Cahir & District Anglers Association and Tipperary South County Council. Representatives of all were present on the day. Brian Sheerin, CEO of Southern Regional Fisheries Board welcomed all to the proceeding and spoke of the efforts of those involved.
Since Cahir had received the Brown Trout Angling Centre of Excellence Award last year, much planning and work went onto improving access to the river for all. The results speak for themselves. The improved access points make it very easy to fish the river even for inexperienced anglers. Included in the new access points are 2 places that are fully accessible to disabled anglers.
Dr. Martin Mansergh TD was there to cut the ribbon along with Cllr Liam Ahern, Chairman of Tipperary South County Council and Brian Sheerin, CEO of Southern Regional Fisheries Board. Afterwards there were light refreshments, tea and coffee served in a much appreciated shady marquee close to the beautiful river Suir.
CAHIR PARK OPENS NEW CLUBHOUSE
Cahir Park AFC officially opened the doors to their new clubhouse on Saturday 22nd May last. This was another of the monthly events that were planned for this, the clubs 100th year. Club Chairman, Billy Purtill welcomed everyone to Cahir Park. He thanked club officials and all who were involved in the building, for their work and dedication in completing the project. He also thanked Chairman of the County Council Liam Ahern and other Party members for attending. Then everyone was invited to take a tour of the state of the art building.
None other than FAI CEO, John Delaney along with Cahir Park’s oldest member Tom Kelly cut the ribbon. John Delaney recalled his days of playing in Cahir Park and confirmed his ongoing commitment to helping the club in any way he could. Fr. O’Dwyer and Reverend Arthur Carter both blessed the proceedings before the doors were opened.
Club Officials looked very well all turned out in their finery. Members of all the clubs teams were presented with Player of the Year awards by John Delaney. They could not have got a better day for it with the sun shining, a bouncy castle on site, tea, coffee and nibbles for all and indeed everyone had a great afternoon.
Well done and congratulations to Cahir Park AFC.

At the official opening of the new Clubhouse in Cahir were Chairman of Cark Park AFC, Billy Purtill, Tom Kelly cutting the ribbon, John Delaney CEO FAI, and County Council Chairman Liam Ahearne
CAHIR TIDY TOWNS.
The Entry Form for this year’s Tidy Towns Competition has been sent off to Dublin just in time for the closing date. Our Volunteer Administrator, Kay Curtin along with committee members and council staff has compiled a comprehensive report on the various projects and improvements that have made since last year in order to increase our marks.
Once the Entry Form has been received at HQ we could be judged anytime after that. Chairman, Andy Moloney has said that last year, the first week of June was vital in judging and it’s possible that there will be a few trips to the Town from Judges over the summer months. There is no point in making the effort to source funds for a 3 year plan and employing the services of Frank Donaldson without maintaining the areas that have received attention. We must keep our guard up now for the coming months and with Business, Traders and Residents working together we will make a difference he said.
The Duck Sanctuary will be completed this week and ducks will be released next week. The committee would like to thank Cahir Gun Club and The Angling members along with CDA, Cahir Bingo and Billy Coffey, Plant Hire, Loughloher for their commitment to the project. We hope that people will respect these animals and welcome children to visit them. We hope to see these ducks swimming up the river in the coming months and hopefully next year they will nest along the shadow of the castle. We would still welcome any pictures of before and after projects that individuals or groups will participate in over the coming months. If there are areas where assistance is needed or advise required please contact Andy Moloney on 086-3609110 or any committee member at the Enterprise Centre, Market Yard, Cahir.
Together we will make a difference to tackle the 135 projects identified in the 3 year plan. The next meeting is on Wednesday 2nd June in Shamrock Lounge at 7.30pm.
