CAHIR NOTES 23rd JUNE 10
CAHIR GO LÉIR FESTIVAL NEWS
Buster Draw; Tickets are still sale for the Cahir go Léir Festival Buster Draw for Race 4 at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium on this Thursday 24th June. The winner is determined by the finishing order of the greyhounds in Race 4 on the night and will receive a cool €1000. The tickets already have all possible race results printed on them. Tickets were €10, but as the time is short, tickets are reduced to €5 and any previously sold at €10 tickets will be automatically issued with a second ticket. All tickets stubs/monies must be handed back to the Enterprise Centre by Thursday lunchtime June 24th so that the extra tickets can be allocated. Good luck to all on Thursday. Thank you to Jean English and Mary Brewster for selling the tickets and also to Julie Conran and Bernie Long who have also been helping out.
Don’t forget that entry forms for Cahir House Hotel Queens Competition which has €1000 in Prizes, The Parade, sponsored by The Heritage and The Lazy Bean has €500 in Prizes and Dolan’s SuperValu Crazy Boat Race has €1000 in Prizes are all available now from The Business and Training Centre. You can also leave your name and details if you would like to have a stall in The Funday Sunday in the Inch Field on 11th July. Please fill out the forms and leave at reception. So, start building those boats, picking a queen to represent your premise and don’t forget about the Adult and Children’s Fancy Dress and Best Boat/Float for the Parade too.
Raffle; A raffle is taking place in Dolans SuperValu for a Top of the range Mountain Bike worth €500. Tickets are €5 with the proceeds going towards Cahir go Léir Festival. Tickets can be purchased at the check outs. The bike can be exchanged for a ladies model if a lady wins.
Donations; By now, most of the businesses in town will have received a stamped, addressed envelope to send in donations towards the festival. Hopefully this will make it a little easier for businesses to donate, as unfortunately it is not always possible to visit every premise and the festival is almost upon us. Please support the Cahir go Léir Festival in any way that you can, it is a much missed event that will should bring a lot of extra people to town and generate much needed business locally, as well as being a weekend of free entertainment for the town to enjoy.
More updates next week.
ILLEGAL DUMPING
Cllr Seanie Lonergan has been active this week attending to reports of illegal dumping of rubbish. In the Mountain View Drive area last week some mindless litter louts dumped a metal railing in the estate, the Cllr had it promptly removed and the very next day there was more rubbish dumped. Seanie has now put in a request for CCTV cameras. Although the public are getting better at reporting illegal dumping, if you see anyone dumping please call Cllr Seanie Lonergan.
DOG FOULING
There have been many complaints recently regarding dog fouling on the high footpath on the Mitchelstown Road. People say that it is exceptionally dirty. The Council has been asked to replace the dog fouling signs. I would also like to remind those whose dogs are responsible of the hefty fines that they face if caught. The County Council Office in Cahir has Doggy Poo bags should anyone wish to purchase them, so there are no excuses.
TIDY TOWNS WEDNESDAY CLUB?
The Cahir Tidy towns Group met in the Castle Car park last Wednesday evening to sort out the flower beds in that area. Thanks are expressed to all involved on the evening and to Tarrants for the stone that was used in the beds.
Other work in progress is the cleaning of the Doctors River which commenced last Thursday. Baby Bat could do with some help on this project if anyone is interested.
The ducks are thriving well in the inch Field and thanks to Martin & Gertie Moloney for supplying the feed for the birds. There was some messing with the ducks last week but this was swiftly dealt with by the Gardai and concerned citizens. Well done to all.
The Group will meet next Wednesday at Market Square to help the older generation on a cleanup that has already started with the help of Liam Tarrant (Truck) and Billy Coffey (JCB). Anyone interested in helping could bring a paint brush or roller for the evening.
The following Wednesdays Group meeting hopes to focus on Tobar Iosa.
There is immense goodwill to Tidy towns in Cahir and a concerted effort by all will help us get to different areas faster. So, until we meet next Wednesday at Market Square between 7pm and 9pm. Many hands make light work for everyone and if you have any relatives living in that area this is your chance to help with a cleanup.
Keep up the good work people you are making a real difference to the town.
CAHIR / SCARBOROUGH TWINNING COMMITTEE
This year’s Trip has been switched from the week ending 10th October to the week ending 31st October. This is due to the Scarborough 10km Road Race dates being changed due to the refurbishment of the SPA Complex. There are athletes from the Poulmucka Sports & Social Club travelling to participate this race, so it will be incorporated into the trip.
Names and details should be given to Andy Moloney or Tim Shanahan in the Enterprise Centre a.s.a.p. €100 deposit secures the flight and we will book the accommodation later. It is still hoped to do the trip for around €200 per head if anyone is interested in travelling to the beautiful Yorkshire Coastal town.
CAHIR ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION.
On Wednesday 14th July the group will take a day trip to Foto Wildlife Park and later to Kinsale for a visit and a meal. The park is not like an ordinary zoo; here you can come face to face
with free roaming animals and birds from all parts of the world. So, whether it's a kangaroo that hops in front of you or a ring tailed lemur which jumps down from a tree, each visit is sure to bring its own fantastic memories.
The medieval town of Kinsale is not just about food. It’s also about traditional bars, beautiful buildings, narrow streets, shops and galleries and lots of activities on land and sea. You'll find
Kinsale is not just a place - it's more a state of mind! It sounds like an excellent trip. Contact our secretary for details.

CAHIR CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES?
The U12 team travelled on Tuesday night last to the county Camogie grounds in the Ragg.
The clash between Cahir and Toomevara was a nailbiting, riveting game from start to finish. Ashling Moloney opened the scoring for Cahir with a super point, but Toomevara were not to be found wanting and brought the play level a few minutes later. Caoimhe Condon then blasted a low ball from the left hand side of the pitch and scored a fantastic goal. Aoife Corcoran collected the sliothar on her hurley and to let fly and point a beautiful score. Again Toome came at us and sent over another point. Caoimhe Condon again replied with a point while Ashling Moloney delivered a super goal just before half time. The Cahir girls were feeling the pressure and the half time interval was a welcome relief. As the evening was warm and balmy the constant running and the adrenalin rush were starting to take its toll.
All the young players were tremendous and have only come onto this team this year, all gave huge contributions and commitments on the field on the night.
Caoimhe Condon opened the scoring of the second half with another point and a few minutes later she popped over another one. Toome answered back with two brilliant points! Again Camoihe came to the rescue and scored another goal. However, Toome found and scored two goals in quick succession. With two minutes to go and only ahead by a goal and a point, Toome came at the Cahir defence again, all guns blazing. A bit of a mêlée around the goal mouth heard the Toome supporters shout with joy when the ball ended up in the back of the net but to the relief and delight of the Cahir contingent, the Referee called a square ball and the goal was disallowed.
When the final whistle sounded Cahir descended into uproar as the cup was lifted by joint and most deserving captains, Ashling Moloney and Aofe Corcoran. The work rate from these two girls is immeasurable and have to get special mention for their never say die attitude. Great credit is due to team manager Carol Keating for her first year in charge of this team and along with her selectors Anthony Corcoran and Martin Halpin has put tremendous effort and work into their challenge and could not contain their joy at achieving this super accolade. A County U12A Championship title is a hard won, hard worked for rewarding achievement. Heartiest congratulations to all involved. Final score Cahir 3-5 Toomevara 2-4.
Panel: Dervla Buckley, Laura Casey, Ashling Moloney, Kirsty Arbuckle, Niamh Murphy, Jessica Coffey, Emma O' Donnell, Aoife Corcoran, Eileen Flannery, Shauna Burke, Rachel O' Donnell, Alysia Keating, Roisin McCarthy, Caoimhe Condon, Niamh Costello, Orla Cashman, Emily O' Donovan, Emma Quirke, Sarah Burke, Lauren Noonan, Andrea O Donnell, Sophie Sheehan, Klaudia Domarska.
GRASS CUTTING
As the summer holidays are almost upon us and as it is also Grass Cutting season, I would like to mention that Willie Lonergan is as usual doing a great job of keeping all the grass neat and tidy. However, it is worth mentioning that once the children are on holidays parents should remind children to stay out of Willies way and let do his work. The grass will not be cut if there are children running around and it would be a shame to see grass left to grow long and untidy for this reason. So, tell your children they can watch, but stand clear and no running around the mower.
Keep up the good work Willie.
GOOD LUCK
The very best of luck to Michael Duggan of Mountain View Drive and Ger Niland of Loughloher who are both taking part in the upcoming TRI3 Series Triathlon that takes place in Cahir on 10th July. They are competing to raise funds for Heart Children Ireland. If you would like to make a donation, please call 087 914 9953 for details. Please support this worthy cause.
Good on you both, Michael and Ger.
