CAHIR FARMERS’ MARKET The stallholders at the Market are organising lots of treats and activities for this Saturday’s Market. For the May Bank Holiday they have asked local farmers to bring some of their young animals to meet the customers at the Granary Car Park, when the Market will receive its annual Blessing. As usual, lots of extra activities are being run to entertain both children and adults.
It appears that the sun will be out again by then, and I look forward to the buzz that is generated on these occasions.
The stallholders wish every success to all the candidates in the forthcoming General Election. We are blessed in this country to have a say in it. Democracy is sometimes taken for granted and unless we exercise our right to vote, we cannot complain about how Ireland is run. Our politicians work hard on our behalf and now is the time to have our say. |

THE LATE PAT QUAID
The death took place of Pat Quaid unexpectedly in Clonmel Hospital on 15th April.
The funeral left Costigan’s Funeral Home on Tuesday night 17th and the remains were interred after Mass on 18th.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr OI’Dwyer with Fr O’Brien of Nenagh and Fr Costello of Bruff in attendance. Pat is survived by his wife Carmel, daughters Susan and Claire, sons Richard and Pakie, his mother, brothers and sisters and extended family.
The staff of Moy-Isover, where he worked for twenty seven years, will miss him greatly. A quiet family man with a passion for hurling and a flutter on the horses, as well as a game of cards, his sudden passing was a shock to his family and all who knew him. To Pat’s family, the people of Cahir and all of his friends send their deepest sympathy.
FRUITS & ROOTS
The new shop in Abbey Street was well and truly opened last Saturday by Cllr Mattie McGrath. Helen had a lovely day for the occasion and the clown, balloons etc were very well received by the many visitors.
Helen, the owner, would be delighted to meet local growers who might have produce for her to sell – I know several people who grow vegs and at times there is always more than a family can eat, even if a lot is frozen, so do call in or give her a ring on 087 767 0782.
CAHIR FLOWER & GARDEN CLUB
The Club’s Annual Outing, to Árus an Uachtarain and the Botanic Garden this year, will take place in June and more particulars will be available at a later date. For these, please ring Margaret on 052 62105.

|
Members have been trying out their Christmas presents and got a lot of diving time in over Easter thanks to the continuing good weather. A bright new decompression chamber has been bought, as the old one was banjaxed.
A group from Cahir headed to Kilkee last Sunday, where some great diving was to be had. Thanks to Maurice Guerin (the husband of Vera, who has Sugar & Spice), who did the catering.

CONGRATULATIONS
... to Hilary Carter and her excellent helpers: Amy Condon, Shauna Coonan, Sabrina Darcy, Louise O’Donoghue, Lisa Conran and Graham Halley, who raised €1,700 for South Tipperary Hospice by Packing and Wrapping at SuperValu on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. RATHKEEVIN MACRA
Last Friday, more than 20 of the members of Rathkeevin Macra attended a dinner in Cahir House Hotel at which a fine cheque for €500 was donated to the Cahir Lions Club. This was the proceeds from a very successful theatrical production that they put on earlier in the year.
I was most interested to hear that a group of members have reached the Final of the national Talent Competition, that will be held in The Helix on 6th May, at which they will sing Super Trooper and Tears in Heaven, so the very best of luck, and we will all be thinking of them. The group, coached by Patsie McGuirk, comprises Owen Parret, David O’Neill, Michael Mockler (Chairman), David O’Neill, Mary Butler, Michael Condon (guitar) and Sarah O’Leary. There are several other musicians involved, who were not able to attend on the night.
