CAHIR NOTES
SCARBOROUGH CHILDREN
I have received the following e-mail from Mike Manning: ...”Well, they had a fantastic holiday and I’m really sorry that I missed the trip. I have now bought a pub “The Spa”, in Victoria Road, Scarborough. All visitors from Cahir will get a very warm welcome and after we have decorated, one of the areas is to be named ‘Cahir Corner’, with photos of Cahir around the walls and photos of you all.
Please thank anyone you see for all the condolences passed on to me and to Sammy while she was in Cahir, and I hope to see you all again very soon. ...”
BINGO
Wow! They raised a whopping €750 for Telethon, and want to thank everyone for their support. As well as this, they donated €500 to Meals on Wheels and another €500 to St Mary’s Church towards the upkeep of the graves.
They are a non-profit-making organisation run on a voluntary basis and anything they do make is donated to local charities. The Day Care Centre and the Hospice benefited during the Summer. Of course, none of this could be done with the support of the community.
There will be a cash Raffle next Tuesday, for the first Tuesday of the month. Bingo continues every Tuesday in the Community Hall at 8:30 pm and all are welcome.

TWO DOGS FOUND
Luckily, they were found by a dog-lover, and anyone who is missing two little terriers, one black and tan, with a red collar, and the other blondish with white paws, a white face and a black collar, should telephone Carmel Ryan, at 23 Bengurrah: 052 41041 during the day or 45574 after 7pm. NEED HELP EXERCISING YOUR DOG?
Just ring Bernie on 085 105 9574 – she is hoping to build up a number of customers for her service, and is also prepared to dog-sit when owners are away. She does not intend to stay in the animals’ homes’, but will be available to feed and groom them and give them exercise and loving care while their owners are on holiday. (I have this sort of arrangement with friends and family when I go away, as both my dogs are rescues and are not at all happy in kennels.)

COLAISTE NEWS
PARENT TO PARENT
Colaiste Dun Iascaigh's "Parent to Parent" course will begin on 1st November in the former Vocational School, Church St., Cahir. This programme has provided millions of parents with practical "hands on" ideas for raising children in today's world. The course, facilitated by Ms. Marie Berry and Ms. Geraldine O'Connor will run from 7 to 8 o'Clock for a total of seven sessions.
GREEN FLAG
Colaiste Dun Iascaigh has taken the first steps in obaining a "green flag" for the College. Mr. Stephen O'Brien and Transition Year students have begun the process. A committee has been set up and over the next year it is envisaged that the whole College community will support this very worthwhile venture.
SENIOR BOYS SOCCER
Colaiste senior players played Rockwelll College on Friday last. The result went to the way side. Rockwell had the best of the opening exchanges and went close on two occasions. However,Cahir went ahead against the run of play with a fine header from Eamonn Wootten from a corner. Rockwell were level within five minutes after some slopply play by our defence. In the second half Cahir were much the better side. Diarmuid Ryan and Thomas Power both going close on two occasions With 20 minutes to go we got the goal we deserved with a penalty from Andrew Fitzgerald after Eamonn Wootten had been brought down. Well done to the panel and coach Mr. Pat Cunningham. The next match will be played against Cashel Community School.
BOYS BASKETBALL
> Colaiste Dun Iascaigh U.16 and U.19 teams competed against St. Peter's Wexford in Tipperary on 22nd Octoberl The U.19 team started at 11a.m. It was a very tight game and their defence was excellent. St. Peter's found it very hard to break through. The team worked well and there were some excellent performances. It is their second win of the season. Thge final score was 27 - 25. They look forward to meeting Bridgetown Wexford after the mid-term break.
> Team: Shane Murphy, James Howlin, Danivs Sinkevicills, Kevin O'Donnell, Jim Costigan, Brian Costigan, Cian Duggan, Felix Finke, Shane Fox, Eric Rees, Gareth Sunders, Krimo Birem.
> The U.16 team got off to a very poor start but showed great determination and fought back. It was their first game of the season and this year the team has many new players. The team was led by Gareth Saunders and Krimo Birem who have had a number of years experience and this was evident on the court. In the last quarter it was anybody's game and there was only a difference of one basket. Unfortunately the Colasite team was beaten. The final score was 23 - 27. This team shows great promise and look forward to the next outing.
> Team: David Glavin, Marc Duggan, Jason Duggan, Ciaran Nugent, Gareth Saunders, Krimo Birem, David O'Donnell, Kieran English, Ian Byrne, Eoin Lambert, Cian Conlon Smith and Michael Tobin.
> HOMEWORK CLUB
> Colaiste 1st Year students will be invited to join the Homework Club which will begin to operate after the mid-term break. The Club will be supervised by teachers. It provides a great opportunity for 1st year students to ask questions and clarify some of the difficulties they may be experiencing with homework. Transition year students will be present to lend a helping hand. The Club will run from 3.30 to 4.30 twice weekly.
CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL FUN
I thought of last year’s competition, which was so entertaining, while watching the racing from Aintree over the weekend, when quite a few potential Cheltenham runners – and winners – made their first appearance over jumps this season.
Helen Quirke assures me that the Festival Fun will be a definite starter next year – and that’s not so far off, so start watching and reading, and maybe you will be as well informed as the Caplice Family, who won the top prize in 2007. And the race was on right down to the wire, with the last televised race providing the decider.
