CAHIR NOTES
As I am currently hors de combat, the copy that appears this week is as it was sent to me, and a piece I intended to write about vandalism will have to wait. Many thanks to Tony for his forebearance!
MINDLESS VANDALISM
Cllr Seanie Lonergan condemns the mindless vandalism that was perpetrated on the town fountain, on the weekend of the 12th.The vandals tumbled the top half of the fountain onto the ground and in doing so damaged the cut stone filial. It will cost a lot of money to repair the 200 year old monument. This ancient fountain is one of a kind and every one in Cahir is proud of having it as the town center. The Gardai are investigating and the hope is that the cctv cameras help to identify the culprits.

GALA FASHION SHOW
Traffic outside O’Keeffe’s / Hearn’s Hotel, Clonmel came to a standstill for the South Tipperary Autism Charity Gala Fashion Show last Wednesday night. Tickets as usual were at a premium. Hosted by Mary Condon, Chairperson of South Tipperary Autism Support Group, Clonmel and Maura Keirns Lonergan, Event Organiser, over 250 glamorous ladies enjoyed a Cheese & Wine Reception before the Fashion Show began. All Clonmel and its environs were there. There was great style; all the local ladies were in their finery. The course was a very worthy one, two local charities very close to both organisers hearts, both mothers themselves of Autistic children who attend Scóil Aonghusa Special School in Cashel, for moderate to severe learning disabilities.
The money raised will enrich the social lives of these special children, as the proceeds are to be distributed between the Social Insurance fund for the buses for the wheelchair children and special needs children in Scóil Aonghusa, Cashel and the Autism Support Group in Clonmel. These special children need social outings, as part of their “challenging behaviours” is the lack of social and basic living skills.
The Ballroom kindly donated by Jamie and Fergal O’Keeffe for the event, was illuminated by over 400 multi coloured scented candles. The catwalk was decorated by two large ornate candelabra. The mood was electric, the compere was Maureen Calvert, elegant models and handsome male models graced the catwalk in local fashion designs from Ryan Design, Nest and Tony Connelly’s Menswear, shoes and accessories by Karen at Interior Concepts, Cahir, hair by Áine at West End Styles, and make-up by Lorna Flynn, Cahir
Liam and Declan saw some excellent items go under the hammer in the Charity Auction. Seanie looked after our Draw with some excellent prizes up for grabs, and while the final fundraising figures have yet to be confirmed, organisers believe that they have risen over €5,000. They hope that this money will help to enrich the lives of these special children
A sincere thank you to all our sponsors who without their generosity, kindness and support we couldn’t achieve our goal to help these special children. Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated and will never be forgotten. To all the media and the support we received in our plight for services for our children also a big thank you.
Sincere thanks to all who attended or supported our Charity Event in any way we couldn’t have done it without you.

CAHIR CAMOGIE CLUB
Last Sunday morning saw the first outing of the year for our Junior girls with a home game against Clonoulty. Conditions were just perfect with lovely April sunshine lending itself to us for the complete duration of the game. A good crowd of supporters lined the field at Duneske for a very entertaining game which was fought to the last by both teams. Its very hard to start naming one player for special mention in any game but one of the hardest and most responsible position of any team is the goalie and Cahir's Aoife O Gorman must get an individual word for her tremendous execution of her job during the entire game. Although Clonoulty seemed to have the upper edge with strength and fitness Cahir were only trailing by 1pt at half time courtesy of two fine points from Leanne Barret, a superb goal from Geraldine O Donnell and two further great points from Marie-Claire McCarthy.
In the first minute of the second half Cahir's goalie was again called upon to pull of a magnificent save denying Clonoulty of a certain goal. A fine passage of play then ensued when Clara Fahy raced towards the sliothar and soloed down the field passing the ball to Marie Claire McCarthy who made no mistake in sending the sliothar over the bar. Again Clonoulty responded with a fine point. A lovely sideline ball was chipped in the direction of Leanne Hickey by the very talented Cathriona Nagle which was then found by Aoife Casey with a lovely pass on to Ger O Donnell and finished superbly by Marie Claire McCarthy. Another fine point by Marie Claire saw the final whistle with Cahir narrowly beaten with a score line of Clonoulty 1 - 11 to Cahir's 1- 7. Over all a fine display by Marie Casey and her Junior team on their first competitive game of the year.
