This Thursday, 1st May, there will be a Table Quiz in the Shamrock Lounge for the Cahir Anglers, who will be taking part in a big competition soon. The start time is 9pm and all will be made very welcome. I believe this is the first time I have had any information from this Club, and I hope it is the first of many. Good luck in the competition!

MORE DAMAGE TO HISTORIC TOMB
I was appalled to hear that the Earl of Glengall’s tomb has received further damage. This happened on the night of 22nd April. Why?
CAHIR YOUTH CLUB
The Committee and members would like to thank, most sincerely, Claire Whelan and Cahir Credit Union for their kind donation of €100 to the lub. This will put towards the cost of running their summer outing.
Members had a great night at the Duneske Leisure Centre last Wednesdat, Again, many thanks to the parents / Leaders who supervised and to all the Duneske staff.
BIG CLEAN UP
Well done to Rosemount residents who had a great turn-out for their Big Clean Up last Saturday. They all pulled together, young and old, and what was achieved was amazing.
The residents are fed up with illegal dumping in the area and intend to be very vigilant regarding offenders.
They send a big Thank You to all who came out with gloves, shovels and a great spirit. Thanks also to Seanie Lonergan, who was their photographer as well as being their Labour Councillor. Thanks to Dolan’s SuperValu for supplying a well thought out ‘goodie bag’. Also, well done to Wallie Costigan for their lovely new stone signs, which are now in place and looking great.
A special thank-you is sent to Raymond from 9 Rosemount Drive, who let us hijack his trailer to bring the huge amount of filled refuse bags to the local County Council Depot, which was opened especially for them at 2pm.
Last but not least, well done to Rita Condon, Jackie Kelleher and Geraldine Kearns who are our representatives on the Tidy Towns Committee, who organised and coordinated the whole event.
The hard-working members of Rosemount Residents’ Association are committed and determined to make their bit on this planet a nice place in which to live.
MATCH ATTAX TRADING
An enjoyable afternoon of trading was spent at the Duneske Leisure Centre by children from around the area. Many were trading their Star Players and Man-of-the-Matches to complete their teams.
With the new Match Attax Extras that are now available, the organiser, Chris Richards, has been asked by both children and parents if he will do another one or two days. So he has booked Cahir Park Soccer Club on the Ardfinnan Road for this Saturday, 3rd May, between 3 and 5:30pm. Again, the all-weather pitch will be available for a kick-around.
Parents are once more asked to attend with their children or to leave an older and responsible sibling. All the children have been very well behaved with no disputes arising regarding trades. The winner of the ball was Ticket Number 256 - 260, so please contact Chris and he will arrange to meet you on Saturday. Telephone 085 703 3509.

The next game is this Friday 2nd May, and all are welcome to enjoy this pleasant evening out.
JOINT POLICING COMMITTEE ON THE WAY FOR COUNTY
Tipperary towns are to benefit from the establishment of Joint Policing Committees, according to local Fianna Fail TD Mattie McGrath.
“Joint Policing Committees provide a forum for local authorities, senior Garda officers responsible for policing the area, Oireachtas members and community interests, to discuss smatters affecting the policing of the area and make recommendations.
“The Minister for the Environment has informed me that the pilot stage of the Joint Policing Committee is now coming to an end and the Programme has proved to be very successful.
“The guidelines are now being revised in the light of the pilot programme and the Joint Policing Committee will be rolled out to all locall authority areas.
“It was important to establish such a committee in Tipperary towns, as a Joint Policing Committee is necessary of the Town Councils are to apply for CCTV.
“CCTV would be a great addition to Tipperary towns, providing a proven deterrent to anti-social behaviour and increasing the security of residents, visitors and business owners.
“I look forward to the speedy establishment of the Committee”, concluded Deputy McGrath.
CAHIR & DISTRICT LADIES’ CLUB
Somehow, I managed to send out the Club’s news without a heading last week. When this was first queried I thought something must have gone wrong at the other end, but on checking I discovered it was me! Many apologies. So here I go again, for those who missed it the first time round.
The ladies are going off for a day to Killarney on Sunday 6th July. The bus will be leaving at 9 in the morning and they will have a stop-off for breakfast. They will then in to Killarney and spend a good few hours there. There will be a stop off on the way back for an evening meal as well.
Please can everyone interested in going, who have not already paid their €10 deposit at the meeting on 28th, get in touch with Tricia or Sharon regarding the details.
HAL KETCHUM
Maria Taylor has been kind enough to send in the following report on the concert that took place in Clonmel last week.
“On 21st April I had the great pleasure of seeing the brilliant Hal Ketchum in concert in the Clonmel Park Hotel. I’m a gib fan (as you can tell!) and I even got the opportunity to have a chat and a photo too. Hal is considered to be one of the best Country and Western singers and is rated alongside the likes of Vince Gill and Garth Brooks. On the night, Hal was backed by Rico on drums, Scott on lead guitar (this was ‘only’ Scott’s 20th gig with Hal) a;nd by Keith on bass and backing vocals. Keith has been with Hal for 27 years.
“Hal chatted throughout the evening, mentioning how much they all enjoy Ireland and the Irish people. So much so that his newest grandchild has been named Fionn McCuall. The evening was made all the more special by the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves, singing along to some tunes and applauding very enthusiastically after each, yet maintaining an appreciative silence when it was necessary. There were maybe 250 to 300 people present, but it felt like a person al audience with Hal, rather than a concert.
“I think every musician from this county and several of the surrounding counties were there and each of them hbad great praise and admiration for Hal. I must also mention Clonmel Park Hotel. This was my first social evening there and I was pleasantly surprised at the modern, comfortable, clean and relaxed atmosphere of the hotel and bar. The staff was efficient, friendly and polite. Needless to say, I will be back“.
IN PRAISE OF SWIMMING
Maria Taylor was delighted to find out that two of her grandchildren are now attending swimming lessons in conjunction with their respective primary schools. She thinks this is a fantastic opportunity for the local children, as she did not learn to swim until she was in her early thirties. Cahir’s river makes this even more important. Well done to the organisers and long may it continue.
CAHIR FARMERS’ MARKET
The Committee would like to remind everyone that there is lots of local fresh produce available in the Community Hall every Friday morning from 9:30am. They have rhubarb, fresh eggs, cakes and some lovely plants. Get there early, as if you wait until the closing time of 11am, everything will be gone.
CAHIR FARMERS’ MARKET
They are going all Springy this Bank Holiday weekend, with lambs and ducks visiting the Market - live ones, of course. Bring your children and yourselves along and meet these lovely animals and their owners. While there, why not visit another new stall - Diarmuid O’Donnell is selling fresh free range eggs and also bedding plants. It’s great to see another new face at the Market. Another recent addition is Catherine English with her delicious Cheese stall.
There will be face painting for the kids and music to enjoy. Also plenty of goodies for sale: fresh fish, organic meat and chicken, pork and bacon products; bread; fresh veg; confectionery; apples; juices and so much more.
SO GO ALONG ON SATURDAY - THESE MARKET DAYS ARE SO SPECIAL.
ARDFINNAN TRACTOR RUN
The date for this very popular outing in aid of South Tipperary Hospice is Sunday 18th May. This is not just a Tractor Run, but a real family day out, sponsored by Cahir Steel and Agri. See posters for the events scheduled for the day. May I add my congratulations to the organisers, who have a phenomenal success on their hands

CAHIR CAMOGIE NEWS
This week has been a fantastic week for schools' camogie in Cahir. A panel of ten girls representing Our Lady of Mercy primary school brought great honour to their school and themselves by winning outright the County section of the INTO's Mini Sevens competition, which was held in Holycross last Thursday.
The previous week they had played three games in NewInn in atrocious conditions and won each game convincingly to qualify for the finals. Cahir were drawn in one of the most talented groups with teams from Burges, Dunkerrin and Holycross in their section.
After beating Burges and Dunkerrin initially, they played Holycross in the semi-final. After a great competitive game they also won this game and were back to playing Burges in the final. Although they had originally won their first encounter with Burges earlier on in the day, it was a different team they were facing in the final. Burges had settled well and were playing camogie with a new fire in their stride.
The panel of ten players from Cahir put their all into every game, starting with Keely Halpin who was goalie, and what a goalie she was, bringing off magnificant saves and sending fantastic puckouts to all parts of the field. In the backs were Emma Buckley and Carl Casey, who could only have been described as brilliant. Emma is a seasoned back and is reliable and strong in her judgement and skill where as Carl was relatively new to this position but took on her task with determination and ability beyond her years.
At mid-field Ashling McCarthy was, as ever, outstanding showing some exhibition camogie and she was ably assisted by the young Aoife Corcoran who tackled and worked like a trogan. In the forwards was Roisin Howard, whose talent can only be admired with awe, as she superbly put Cahir's name on the score board time and time again.
Clara O' Donnell, Roisin Costigan and Katie Farrell took it in turns to work in the forwards and centre field and did all that was asked of them putting pressure on the opposition and keeping their heads when things were tough.
There were scenes of elation when the final whistle blew and Cahir had overcome Burges with a score line of Cahir 2-2 to Burges 2-0. Great credit is due to school principle Pat O' Malley for his interest and encouragement of camogie in the school and to Mary Howard, Martin Halpin and Marie Casey who give their time each week to coach in the school. Again from all in Cahir Camogie club well done girls.
They will now go on to represent Tipperary in the Munster mini sevens blitz and from this one of the girls will get a chance to play in Croke Park. What an honour at such a young age. On the club scene the U14 team had an easy win over a very young Moyle Rovers team and are due to play Carrick in the coming week.
“CAHIR SCOUTS NEW DEN”
On Friday 9th May 2008 there will be a Public Meeting held in Cahir House Hotel at 8pm to discuss the proposed development of a new Scouts Den.
The site for the new Den is at Duneske Leisure Centre, and the Den will also be offering facilities that will greatly enhance those already on offer in the Centre.
This is a very large project, and one that promises to affect positively the lifestyle of a lot of people in the Cahir area – particularly our youth. It requires your support at the meeting. For the first Public Meeting of Duneske in 2001, we had a turnout of some 600 people, and this went a long way towards persuading the Government of the viability of the Project. It is hoped that if we have a similar turnout this time, we can be equally persuasive with the Government, when it comes to grant assistance.
ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND.
